BRATISLAVA - Turkey's etno-jazz orchestra "Okay Temiz and Doğu Rüzgarı (Oriental Wind)" gave an open-air concert at the Hlavne Namestie Square in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava on Saturday at a traditional music festival.
Some 1,000 people including foreign tourists listened to the concert. This was the first time a Turkish music band performed in the traditional music festival in Bratislava.
The band played many Anatolian melodies and received a great applaud from Slovakian people with their solo performances. Also, a 12-year-old Turkish pianist Mertol Demirelli will give a recital on Sunday.
Temiz is an accomplished musician who plays all sorts of percussion instruments that he has either collected or crafted over the years in a style of his own and can skillfully transform even the simplest ryhthms into a whole new set of sounds.
Temiz and his group organized seminars for the promotion of both Turkish and world music in European cities like Athens, Thessaloniki, Barcelona, Budapest, Zurich, Ljubliana, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Lisbon.
Temiz appeared in more than 350 festivals and has taken the stage at about 3,000 concerts in Europe, the Americas and India. He came to know, listened to and worked together with top musicians.
