Hasan Ercakica said the Turkish Cypriots seek the continuation of the guarantee system based on the 1960 agreements, as the order created by these agreements was destroyed by the Greek Cypriots, the Anatolian Agency reported.
"Cypriot Turks are for the continuation of the guarantee system (of bi-communal partnership)," Ercakica said.
He also said the U.N. acqui, including the Annan Plan, would be used as the main reference for Turkish Cypriots. However Greek Cypriots repeatedly have said they are not in favor of a solution based on the Annan Plan, saying it already has been shelved.
Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias met on March 21 and decided to revive reunification talks as well as to open another crossing point in the capital Nicosia as a goodwill gesture.
The reunification talks stalled in 2004 when Greek Cypriots rejected a U.N. blueprint for the island’s reunification; a plan overwhelmingly supported by Turkish Cypriots.Â
