Tufan Turenc: The world watches in silence as Israel bombs Lebanon

Of course, Fenerbahce's stadium in Kadikoy is Turkey's most modern stadium, and there really aren't those "open" stands behind the goal posts that there used to be in my childhood. Still, the more elite members of society still don't buy tickets to the areas behind the goal posts. Anyway, as the shouts of "Down with Israel" floated up from those seats, I thought to myself about the anger being expressed. It seems clear to me the reason: Israeli is discounting international law, human rights, and the values of the "new world" in its carrying out of its business. Every area of Lebanon has been bombed, without care, without regard for what may have been schools, or hospitals.

And the Turkish people can't accept this. But there is another reason they are angry. They are angry with Israel on account of the PKK. They hold America responsible for the mining of our roads, the shooting of PKK bullets at our soldiers. They believe that these bloody handed terrorists are using the US. And they know that Israel is America's pal.

When the anti-Israel slogans stopped flying at the Fenerbahce match, new posters were unfurled, reading "Veteran soldiers never die, the country will not be divided." But when those posters were unfurled, the cries of "Down with Israel!" rose again from the stands. Neither America nor Israel understand Turkey's sensitivity on this matter, how hearts are pained with the funerals for our dead soldiers. The Turkish people see Israel and America as responsible for the blood and death in the Middle East.
 
And then know that the terror that has planted itself and continues to grow in that region is rooted in the clashes between the Palestinians and the Israelis. They see that there will be no chance for terror to come to an end without a just sharing of land and rights in the region. Actually, the anti-Israel and anti-US stance in Turkey has reached frightening levels. The tension that exists here on that front does not even exist in any Arab countries. And it is important not to forget that the anger collecting in the hearts and minds of the Turkish people is also provoking reaction towards the PKK.

It is incredible that Arab countries have remained this silent in the face of the bombings of Palestine and Lebanon. Equally incredible is the lack of sensitivity displayed by Western countries at the Rome conference. Due to American pressure, conference participants were not even able to come out with a call for a cease-fire.

What this conference once again showed was that America is able to get the whole world to do what it wants. America is silencing the entire world in order to buy time for Israel to finish its business. And it is now clear that Israel will bomb Lebanon until its plan is complete. Many many guilty and innocent people will die. And the world will watch in silence.
