ANKARA - The Chief of General Staff’s communication department head, Brig. Gen. Metin Gürak, said Friday that the military will take a press tour to troops in southeast Anatolia on the eve and the first day of the Sacrifice holiday.
Press members will spend the night of Dec. 7 in Şırnak, Gürak said. Since Nov. 21, the military has captured 22 terrorists from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, of which three are dead.
"Five of them surrendered. It is significant that despite their long years in the terrorist organization, at least from seven years up to 16 years, they decided that nothing can be achieved with terrorism," Gürak said.
He said the Turkish Frigate Gökova, sailing as part of the NATO task force in the Aden gulf, protected a Maltese ship from a group of speedboats harassing it. Gürak said testing of two Israeli-made Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are continuing in Turkey.
A High Level Joint Defense group meeting was held Thursday and Friday under the presidency of the second Chief of General Staff, Gen. Hasan Iğsız, and U.S. Assistance Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Mary Beth Long, Gürak said.
