MERSÄ°N- The man who showered 3,500 Turkish Liras down from the roof of an apartment in Mersin province in southern Turkey did so to "relieve stress," news reports said Thursday.
Thirty-year-old farmer Mevci Ergün went up to the roof of a building in the town of Erdemli and showered five- and 10-lira notes down onto the street on Tuesday. Ergün, a divorced father of one, was later found and told police he had showered the money just to see how he felt as the notes floated down. He said he sold his land for 29,000 liras to pay off a 5,000-lira debt. "After I paid off the debt I felt this joy inside me. I found myself on the roof of an apartment, sprinkling my money down on the street. I watched the money rain down and then left the place," he said.
Intense relief
He said he felt intense relief after throwing the money. "Throwing away the money you don’t need and watching it go down on the street is the best feeling in the world. I felt that feeling. Those who haven’t will never understand." He also recommended that others do what he did.Â
He said some of the people who collected the money returned it to the police. "The police gave me back 825 liras of the money that I threw away. I have no regrets. If I had more money, I would do it again," he said.
