Güncelleme Tarihi:
In 2008, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), received the most funding, with 46.3 million YTL while the Republican People's Party (CHP), received 20.7 million YTL, and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) received 14.2 million YTL.
These amounts will be doubled to total 162.4 million YTL due to the coming local elections in 2009, Hurriyet said.
The number of seats a party holds in Parliament determines the amount of funding it receives from the Treasury. Parties need to surpass a 10 percent threshold in general elections to earn seats in Parliament.
23 MILLION TO BE CUT FROM AKP
The Constitutional Court's judgment on the ruling AKP's Treasury aid will see deductions taken from its 2009 payments, because of the decision taken in the closure case against the party.Â
The AKP was ordered to pay back 23 million YTL from its 2008 payment. The Treasury has indicated, however, that the money will be cut from the 2009 payment instead. Thus, the AKP will receive YTL 69.6 million in 2009.
According to data from the last five years, the biggest receiver of Treasury aid has been the AKP, with 234 million YTL, followed by the CHP, which received 183.4 million YTL, and the MHP, with 84.1 million YTL.
