SAKARYA - Italian producers Franco Grillini and Cianpierro Urbani were in the northwestern city of Adapazarı last week to meet with local municipality officials. The aim of the visit was to exchange views to establish a film platform and entertainment center in the district of Sakarya.
Grillini, his partner Urbani and Selahattin Akbulut, who is working as a director for a cartoon
film company in Italy, held talks with the Sakarya Mayor Aziz Duran and were provided information about the region.
Akbulut said the project was something like Disneyland and that Sakarya was open to all kinds of investments due to its natural structure. "Natural platforms are necessary for similar platforms. We have been visiting Sakarya and have carried out research for sometime. This place is very suitable for our theme park project. We can call this an investment in the ’service industry’ because it will be environmentally friendly and support many sectors. The theme park in Sakarya will be called the ’Turkish Cinema City.’"
The first stage will cost 50 million euros
Akbulut said the investment would grow through time, adding that the first stage of the project would cost 50 million euros. "Also, we will create employment opportunity for 4,000 people. A thousand out of them will be unskilled people and the rest will be from the fine arts. Operations will start in the coming days. This is a great opportunity for Sakarya and Turkey. We will first establish fields especially for children as well as adults just like at Disneyland. Later on, other places will follow it and it will become a full entertainment area."
The team asked the municipality to provide 100 hectares for the project. Sakarya Municipality Secretary General Rüstem Keleş said the project would revive the region. "Akbulut, a local of Sakarya, brought the Italian investors to the region. Sakarya is less than two hours from Istanbul and Ankara. We will provide them opportunities to establish such a place."
