ANTALYA - A beauty contest was organized in Antalya on Sunday, but for a chance, the focus was on the jury, not the contestants. Aynagül Irzabekkızı was selected as the "Nevruz Beauty" in a contest held by the Russian School in Antalya as part of local celebrations of the spring festival. Despite the beauty of the 17-year-old, it was the four-strong jury that drew the spotlights. The jury drank vodka with cherry juice during the contest, making reference to the Russian saying that went, "There are no ugly women but there may not be enough vodka."
Five students from the school’s tourism department participated in the beauty contest, appeared in two outfits and performing both popular and traditional dances that were evaluated by a jury. Two dance groups, one Russian and the other Kazak, also performed at the event, which was watched by school’s students, whose ages differ from eight to 18.

The four-person jury included Viktor Bikkenev, owner of the Russian School, a Habar TV representative from Kazakhstan and representatives of Komsomolskaya Pravda, a newspaper published in Russia. Contestants received flowers and heart-shaped chocolates.
"As an international school, we wanted to do something special for our Kazak students, said Viktor Bikkenev. "We wanted to celebrate Nevruz with different performances prepared by our students."
