ISTANBUL - Theater Kedi is preparing to perform the famous play "The Marriage of Figaro." The play will be on stage at Istanbul’s Caddebostan Culture Center on June 5 and Dormen Theater on June 6.
Based on Pierre Beaumarchais's 1784 play, the play is directed by Hakan Altıner. Nedim Saban, the owner of Theater Kare, will play the role of the Count, and actress Füsun Önal will play the role of the Countess.
"The Marriage of Figaro" has been performed before millions of people internationally for more than 200 years. The play was banned many times when it was first staged because of its satire of the aristocracy.
The play takes place after the events in "The Barber of Seville" and recounts a single day in the palace of Count Almaviva in Spain. Rosina is the countess, whose husband, the count, is seeking the favors of Susanna, who is to be wed to her love, Figaro, the count's valet. When the count detects the interest of the young page, Cherubino, in the countess, he tries to get rid of Cherubino by giving him an officer's commission in his own regiment. Figaro, Susanna, and the countess conspire to embarrass the count and expose his infidelity.
Other artists in the play are Atılgan Gümüş (Figaro), Yeşim Alıç (Suzanne), Ergün Demir (Cherubin), Eda Gülten (Fanchette), Erez Ergin Köse (Basilio), Sanem İşler (Marceline), Tarık Pabuccuoğlu and Mehmet Ulay.
