ANKARA - The Democratic Society Party, or DTP, has been debating whether to withdraw its pending meeting request with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which was proposed for discussing the Kurdish issue.

Discontent among delegates from the region surfaced at a recent party congress in Diyarbakır. The delegates were unhappy about Erdoğan’s attitude toward the DTP and wanted the leadership to call off the meeting request. DTP Co-chairwoman Emine Ayna said the congress’ advisory decision would be debated by party leaders.

During the congress, delegates voiced concerns over Erdoğan’s recent statements that urged the DTP to condemn activities of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK. Erdoğan’s lack of sincerity in terms of finding a solution to the Kurdish issue, as well as ongoing military operations by the Turkish military in the Southeast were named as other sources of discomfort by the DTP delegates.

Accordingly, the party congress adopted an advisory decision that calls on the DTP leadership to withdraw co-chairman Ahmet Türk’s pending meeting request with Erdoğan.

"We will discuss this advisory decision at our party’s relevant bodies," Ayna said after the congress. The DTP leadership will debate the withdrawal at a central executive committee meeting in the coming days. Erdoğan’s stance in the meantime will also be taken into account by the DTP leadership, the Daily News has learned.
