Tekirdag Mayor noticeably absent from Ataturk foundation dinner

A traditional annual Republic Dinner held two nights ago by the Ataturkian Thought Foundation (ADD) was transferred at the last minute from its original site at the Tekirdag Municipality facilities to the Tekirdag Teachers' House facilities. The switch in location took place following Tekirdag Mayor Ahmet Aygun's announcement that no alcohol could be served at municipality facilities. Aygun, who is from the ruling Justice and Development (AKP) Party, after seeing the proposed ADD menu, told the head of the ADD, Necdet Mercenoglu, that the municipality "has no liquour licence, and so there can be no alcohol served there."
Mayor Aygun was noticeably absent from the ADD dinner two nights ago. Said ADD president Mercenoglu, "We will never stray from the road shown to us by Ataturk. Our answer will always be the same to anyone who wishes to divide our country."
