ISTANBUL - Hannover Fairs Interpro International Fairs Inc., or HİFAŞ, announced that the upcoming CEBIT IT Eurasia Fair will take place in Istanbul between Oct. 7 and 11. The fair is known to set new trends in technology and business while enabling stronger relations between countries and companies.
"Turkey is not only famous for its historical and cultural heritage but also for its business opportunities," said Alexander Kühnel, general manager of HİFAŞ, at a press conference Wednesday. "When we compare the figures in Turkey regarding information technology, or IT, we reach a interesting conclusion. In Turkey, estimated growth rate in the sector is 9.2 percent while in the EU it is only 2.6 percent."
Noting that annual market volume of the sector in Turkey is 20.9 billion euros, Kühnel said, "Research shows that Turkey spends the longest time online. Turkey is a big opportunity in the IT sector. A decade ago, we started the Eurasia Fair aiming to make Istanbul one of the technology capitals of the world. Today, during the 10th fair, countries that surround Turkey will meet in Istanbul to do business."
Cutting advertising budgets
"Due to the crisis, most of the companies reduced budgets from their marketing departments," Kühnel said. "They reduced advertising budgets. But marketing is vital in business. Companies must show that they are still alive and continuing their businesses. Due to these reductions, firms may also reduce the space they will rent in the fair. But still, we expect good participation."
Mentioning that in the fair there will be many new show rooms, Orkunt Yozgat, the director of the fair, said, "This year we are planning to open a sale room because of the crisis. As companies want to benefit more from the fair, they will also be able to sell their products."
"There will be also special products for the public sector, such as e-municipality and e-governance," he continued. "The public sector is also eager to share its experiences."
Noting that this year HİFAŞ will expand its services in Turkey, Yozgat said, "This year, for the first time, we will arrange short journeys to other Turkish cities such as Bursa, Gaziantep and Adana. We will arrange meetings with managers in various industrial sectors and supply the necessary environment for them to expand their businesses."
