ISTANBUL - Recently crowned international champion in her grade, Turkish boxer Gülsüm Tatar claimed the government should give her a large prize.
Tatar, who won the 63kg category at the AIBA Women’s Boxing World Championship on Saturday, stated she should be awarded with the same prize money that was given to the winners in the Olympic Games.
Due to the regulations of Youth and Sports Directorate, or GSGM, the Olympic winners were given gold worth more than YTL 400,000 but there were no such regulations for the World Championships.
Tatar said that Mehmet Atalay, the head of the Directorate, visited the boxers in their training camp, and she promised a win during that visit, while Atalay promised prize money to her.
