His doctors said that the operation went very well, that he was in very good condition and he was placed under intensive care as a routine procedure," Esref Vaiz, the health minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), told the NTV news channel.
Talat was expected to be discharged in seven or 10 days time, he added.
Talat, 53, does not have a history of cardiac problems, but was hospitalized on Sunday after a check-up revealed a partially blocked artery, raising the possibility of a heart attack in the future.
The artery was replaced with a vein taken from Talat's chest, said the doctor who headed one of two teams involved in the three-hour operation. "This was a simple but necessary procedure because had it not been done, the risk of a heart attack was high," Professor Cihat Bakay told a press conference here, the Anatolia news agency reported. "The operation was a success. There were no complications," he said.
