ISTANBUL - The squads for this weekend’s Beko All-Star 2009 event, which will bring together the finest players of the Turkish Basketball League, have been revealed.
Saturday’s Beko All-Star 2009 game in İzmir’s Halkapınar Stadium will be played between the Turkish All-Stars and the International All-Stars and the teams will be made up of those players that received the highest number of votes in polls on the league’s Web site.
Galatasaray Caf Crown, Türk Telekom and league leader Efes Pilsen tops the lists of being represented with the most number of players, sending three players for the event.
Galatasaray veterans Hüseyin Beşok and Cüneyt Erden will play for the Turkish team, while teammate Antonio Graves will take his place in the international squad. Efes will be represented by Ender Arslan and Kerem Gönlüm in the Turkish team and Marvis Thornton in the international squad. Guards Tutku Açık and Serkan Erdoğan of Türk Telekom will play for the Turkish side while high-scoring Michael Wright will be a part of the international stars.
Tickets for the match are already sold out and the organization is trying to find extra places, the Turkish Basketball Federation, or TBF, general secretary said.
"For the first time in the All-Stars (history), the tickets were sold out with nine days left," said Ali Özsoy. "Around 10,000 fans will watch the game and we can only have a limited number of extra spots allocated."
Center Hüseyin Beşok said the ticket problem was the same for everybody. "All of my friends are in İzmir and everybody is asking me to find some tickets," said the experienced player, smiling. "But there is none. But I’ll try to find some."
The Beko All-Star 2009 event at the Halkapınar Stadium will also host slam-dunk and three-point contests.
