Armed Somali pirates had captured the "M/V Yasa Neslihan" freighter, owned by YA-SA maritime company, along with 20 sailors, in the Gulf of Aden.  Â

"An agreement was reached after lengthy negotiations," Fehmi Ulgener, a lawyer for the Istanbul-based company, told AFP, declining to say how much ransom was paid.

"Our ship was released on Tuesday evening and is sailing towards safe waters," he said.

Piracy has soared off Somalia, which is caught up in an Islamic insurgency and has no functioning government.
