Snow blankets Istanbul, as predicted

The snowfall which predicted days ago in Istanbul began early this morning, and is expected to increase with the passing hours. It is thought that the city will be under the effect of the snow for a few days. The Istanbul Municipality is salting major arteries, intersections, and bridges to fight against excessive ice. There is also a heavy wind in effect.

Certain ferryboat and sea plane departures and arrivals have been cancelled due to the inclement weather. These include the Harem-Sirkeli, Istanbul-Bandirma, Istanbul-Mudanya, and Istanbul-Pendik routes. At the same time, Turkish Airlines has cancelled the Diyarbakir-Istanbul and Kayseri-Istanbul flights.
