ANKARA - Turkey is expecting cold weather today after a new cold front came in from the Balkans last night.

In a statement released by the Turkish State Meteorological Service yesterday, Turkey is still being affected by heavy showers coming from the middle of the Mediterranean. In addition to rainfall, the statement said Turkey was feeling the cold Balkan weather.

Yesterday’s rainfall in the mid and west Mediterranean coast, central Anatolia’s northeast, eastern Anatolia’s north and east, and western Black Sea regions is expected to continue, but the four to six degree Celsius drop in temperature will result in sleet and snow in central and eastern regions.

Strong rainfall is expected in the Mediterranean, southern central Anatolian, southeastern Anatolian, and south and west of eastern Anatolian regions.

Tomorrow, the Black Sea, Aegean, and Mediterranean coasts, and the western and southeast Anatolia regions will have heavy showers and central and eastern Anatolia, and the Marmara regions will have snowfall.

The snow will continue until Thursday, but it is expected to stop Friday.

Particularly in the Marmara region, strong winds will result in a strong but short-lived storm. The strong northeasterly winds in the Marmara have negatively affected sea traffic, with Istanbul Sea Buses, or İDO, canceling certain ferry services between Bandırma and Yenikapı yesterday.
