Sivas actualizes the late BBP leader’s dream

Great Union Party, or BBP, won by a landslide in the eastern province of Sivas, which is the birth place of BBP’s leader Muhsin Yazicioglu who lately died in the helicopter crash.

In the 2007 general elections, Yazicioglu run as an independent candidate and was elected as Sivas deputy. His almost only aim for the local elections was to get the mayoralty seat in his home town. According to the results, Sivas residents have fulfilled Yazicioglu’s desire.Â

 

BBP’s candidate Dogan Urgup won the election race getting 50.8 percent of votes while his closest rival AKP’s Sami Aydın gained 33.3 percent of the vote. Aydın is the current mayor of the city. He won around 50 percent of votes in 2004 elections while BBP’s votes remained at 17 percent.   Â
