Saudi Arabia has donated $1 billion for Gaza's reconstruction following Israel's deadly attacks on the coastal strip, Reuters reported Saudi King Abdullah as saying on Monday. (UPDATED)
"I announce on behalf of your brothers in Saudi Arabia that the kingdom will offer $1 billion as a contribution under the program proposed by this summit for the reconstruction of Gaza," Reuters reported King Abdullah saying on the sidelines of an Arab economic summit in Kuwait.Â
Arab leaders prepared to met on Monday for their first-ever summit aimed at boosting economic growth and integration, but the agenda is dominated by the destruction in Gaza, where a shaky ceasefire was in place.
Israel and Hamas have both declared a ceasefire, though it remains shaky. The offensive has killed more than 1,250 Palestinians, about half of them civilians. Thirteen Israelis have also been killed.
