Samsun’s municipal boat ready for tasks

SAMSUN - To ease police work and aid pollution control, the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality has commissioned a boat from the Business Development Center.
The boat will be used for search and rescue missions, environmental patrol and coastal service projects.
On the Black Sea coast in northern Turkey, Samsun is an important and active port. Pollution from coastal traffic has been a source of problem for Samsun in the past and the city municipality has had a hard time enforcing regulations and providing services. The new municipality boat, constructed in three months, is 10.7 meters long and 3.5 meters wide and will be used in the implementation of clean up efforts and environmental patrol.
Moored at the Yacht Club, the boat is furnished with the latest equipment. The boat has an 80 horse-power engine and cost 100,000 Turkish Liras. The steel boat is the first one to be owned by a municipality with a coastline.
