ISTANBUL - Huge meat product chains are taking animal sacrifice orders over the Internet for the coming Kurban Bayramı (Feast of the Sacrifice), which will be held between the eighth and 12th of this month.
Following in the footsteps of supermarkets that take orders over the Internet and deliver goods to customers’ doors, meat markets will also accept sacrifice orders over the Internet and then deliver the meat.
Mehmet Emin Arslan, board chairman for the brand of Etçii, said this bayram they will offer an online service for sacrifices for the first time, for people who want to spend bayram as a holiday due to their intensive work life, but who still want to fulfill their religious duties.
Arslan said customers can select the type, size and other characteristics of the animal online and added they expect a huge increase in orders compared to last year.
Aslan said the Religious Affairs Directorate approved their service and they would be cooperating with municipalities offering soup kitchen services and social service foundations for customers who wanted to donate their sacrifice.
More cattle
Güven Şengelirler, the coordinator for Şalvarlı Et brand, said, "Last bayram, we sold 300 cattle. This year, we aim to sell 150 more online and reach a total sale of 450." Şengelirler said, even though selling sacrifices online initially seemed difficult, the prestige of their brand easily overcame that. Osman Uluçay, president of the Danet brand, said their target was to sell 150 cattle online. "We will offer the online ordering service for people to fulfill their religious duties easily with the help of technology."
