ISTANBUL - Suzan Sabancı Dinçer, the chief executive officer of Akbank, won a bid Tuesday for the historic Ahmet Afif Paşa residence in Istanbul’s Sariyer district with an offer of 58 million Turkish Liras.
The auction, organized by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund, or TMSF, kicked off with an estimated value of 34 million liras. The offers were given in closed envelopes.
Trend Logistics Company, Nezih Barut, Köybaşı Tourism, Suzan Sabancı Dinçer and Yaldız Tourism were on the tender. The bid opened with Köybaşı Tourism’s offer, which was 34.5 million Turkish liras. The tender finished with Sabancı Dinçer offering the highest amount for the residence.
TMSF Vice President Fethi Çalık, who was also the chairman of the sale commission for the bid, said the residence was consigned to Sabancı Dinçer with the approval of the fund commission.
Haluk Dinçer, who attended the tender as his wife’s attorney, said they bought the 100-year-old residence, which he considers a culture heritage. According to him, the price they offered was a normal amount.
’We bought it for the family’
When asked how they will use the residence, Dinçer said they had not yet decided. "But we bought it for our family," he said. "That’s why we will use it in the best possible way. We see the house as an inherited treasure that is left by former generations for new ones. We will maintain and protect it very carefully."
The residence consists of two parts. The Ahmet Afif Paşa residence is built on a 2,242-square-meter plot of land. It has 22 rooms and has an indoor area of 1,250 square meters.
The residence was put on tender in January this year with a starting price of 40 million Turkish liras, but no one made any offers.
