Uzans launched an operation to cover up their properties. The register of the Star daily that belongs to them has been emptied suddenly. The names of Hakan Uzan and the rest of the administrative staff have been taken out of the register of the daily. Formerly Hakan Uzan was depicted as the owner of the daily in the register. Tunc Burusukoglu is seen as the owner of the daily on behalf of Ulusal Press Journalism Printing and Publishing Industry Inc. The second name on the register belongs to the responsible manager Ramadan Sezer. This operation took place right after the speech of Cem Uzan in Haberturk television channel saying, “If the Star Daily has to be closed and employees lose their job, who will be responsible for that?” According to the records in the Istanbul Chamber of Trade no member of the Uzan family is in the Board of Directors of the Ulusal Press Inc. This causes suspicion that Uzans are preparing to hide the daily from creditors.Same Tactic with BilginDinc Bilgin, the owner of the Etibank, which went bankrupt with 1.2 billion dollars of debt, had leased the Sabah Daily and other media institutions to a firm called Merkez Publishing founded by Turgay Ciner. Thereby, the incomes of ATV and Sabah Daily started to be collected by Turgay Ciner instead of creditors of Bilgin. The Banking Regulating Board (BDDK) had announced that this was an operation to hide properties. There are rumors that a similar reason underlies the operation of Uzans.A New Daily?Another possibility is that Uzans can transfer the whole editorial staff to another daily that will be founded by them. There are rumors that the Uzan family will show somebody else as the owner of this new daily.
