ISTANBUL - Royal Irish Academy of Music Director John O’Conor, who is regarded as one of the world’s best interpreters of Beethoven, will perform a concert in Istanbul on Jan. 15.

The famous pianist, who took the stage for the first time in 2005 at the Atatürk Culture Center, or AKM, and holds countless number of medals, titles and awards, will be on stage at Mustafa Kemal Center as part of the Istanbul Recitals.

O’Conor’s more than 20 albums, in which he interpreted Beethoven, Mozart and Field, differs him from other pianists. Also, the series of concerts he has performed at the New York Metropolitan Museum are very significant in his professional life.

Performing concerts with London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, l'Orchestre National de France, NHK Orchestra Japan, Cleveland, San Francisco, Dallas, Montreal and Detroit Symphony Orchestra, O’Conor gave recitals in prestigious hall including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center New York, Kennedy Center Washington, Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre Londra, Musikverein Viyana, Dvorak Hall Prag and Bunka Kaikan Tokyo.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, O'Conor's early studies began in Dublin where his main piano teacher was J. J. O'Reilly. He was awarded an Austrian Government scholarship that enabled him to study in Vienna with the renowned pedagogue Dieter Weber. He also made a special study of Beethoven with the legendary German pianist Wilhelm Kempff. In 1973 O'Conor was unanimously awarded first prize at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna, which launched his international career, and in 1975 he won first prize at the Bösendorfer Competition.

Since 1997 he has taken on the mantle of his revered professor Wilhelm Kempff and now gives the annual Beethoven Interpretation Course in Kempff's own villa in Positano, Italy, where Kempff gave the course from 1957.

He gives master classes in many of the places he performs as well as in the major music institutions including the Juilliard and Manhattan Schools in New York, Harvard, Yale, Temple, Rutgers, Indiana and Seattle universities, the Hamamatsu Piano Academy in Japan, the National University of the Arts in Korea, the Australian National Academy and the Sydney Conservatorium in Australia and the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music in London.
