ANKARA - A global brand in movable immovables and an expert in tents, Germany’s Röder has set up a production center in Düzce. The center aims to export most of its products, but Röder sees the Turkish market itself as an opportunity in times of global crisis
Röder, a leading German company in movable immovables, has set up a tent production center in Düzce, investing 10 million euros.
With the investment, the company set up its biggest production center in Turkey, according to chief executive Rüdiger Blassius. "We see Turkey as both a production base and also a base of trade," he said. "The year 2009 will be one of opportunity for Röder Turkey."
Nearly 90 percent of the tents produced at the Düzce factory will be exported. The factory is located in the Gümüşova Industrial Zone and aims to have 600,000 square meters of production in its first phase.
"We meet the expectations of our customers in days," he said. "In Turkey, we will meet the warehousing needs of companies, especially small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) quickly."
The Röder brand will be promoted through activities such as parties, concerts and sports events, Blassius said.
Choosing developing countries
The company was founded in 1959 and chooses to invest in developing countries rather than developed ones. In 2007, Röder had revenue of 60 million euros.
As an international company, Röder attaches great importance to Turkey, Blassius said.
"We have observed big changes in Turkey over the past few years," he told Anatolia News Agency. "As foreign investment grows, so do international organizations. Röder tents were used in 2005 in the UEFA Champions League final and Formula 1 races. Convenience is crucial and government incentives are of key importance. Unfortunately, German companies are not aware of these."
Röder sees Turkey as a bridge between Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Turkic republics, he said. "Despite the current global crisis, we have implemented our investment decision and are happy about it."
The company aims to decrease the costs of Turkish firms, especially in the logistics sector, said Yaşar Polat, marketing director of Röder Turkey. "One of the key cost items for industry is warehousing," he said. "In this respect, Röder provides cost-effective solutions."
Growth targets
The company aims to grow 10 percent globally and 30 percent in Turkey next year, Polat said. In the middle term, Röder Turkey aims to provide 25 percent of the group’s total revenue.
"Expectations of an economic crisis will result in cutting big-budget investment," he said. "In this respect, Röder buildings provide an alternative. 2009 is a year of opportunity for us. Even now, automobile companies and others have placed orders."
"The Düzce factory will produce tents for all the world," Polat continued. "We will meet the warehousing needs of big companies and SMEs."
Röder products are used in fairs, gymnasiums, logistics warehouses, restaurants and concert organizations.
"Turkey has great potential," Polat said. "That is why Röder chose Turkey as a production base. In 2009, we will have 2 million euros in export revenue, also contributing to Düzce’s economy."
