ANKARA - The parliamentary Human Rights Commission has signed critical reports recently. The conclusion that the "gendarmerie was late" was reached in the Mardin massacre, in which 40 people were killed. In the Beyoğlu Police Department report, it was cited that "ill treatment was the case."
In Van’s F- and M-type prisons report, commission members agreed: "Due to bad and inadequate physical conditions, the prison situated on the earthquake belt should be destroyed and convicts should be transferred to others as soon as possible."
The reports then were sent to ministries. What is the result? They will all be shelved as usual. For this reason, commission chairman Zafer Üskül wants to amend and reinforce commission rules but he feels somehow as though someone wants them to remain on the shelf. Üskül is determined to fight, but he doesn’t seem too optimisticÉ
