Talking to Hürriyet, Basegmez, who was detained for 36 hours, said: "I was taken from my house at around four in the morning by black-masked police and trained dogs - I thought these kinds of things would take place in American movies. It was pitch dark but I was blinded by the light of the torch they had. I immediately thought about the Brazilian guy wrongly shot at the tube station. I was cuffed and whisked away by at least ten policemen, who told I was arrested under the terrorism act. It was rather like a bitter joke."

Basegmez's Chinese wife Anna was also arrested and was freed after 12 hours.

Having studied business law and international public administration in England, Basegmez is currently running two shops. He thinks he was targeted by the police because of the "black backpack" he uses when he commutes to work.

Islam Tat, who went to London to visit acquaintances and to learn English, said he would be coming back to Turkey upon his release. Tat was questioned by the police on his religious beliefs and on the snapshots he took on the tube with his mobile phone.

It is understood that the police forces thought that the initial four Turkish men shared a terrorist pad together. Islam Tat and Baris Basegmez saw each-other every evening, upon which the police started suspecting Basegmez.

Upon his release on terrorism charges, Ibrahim Yalcin was detained again on grounds of being an illegal immigrant. Yalcin could now face deportation.
