ISTANBUL - Chef and restaurant entrepreneur Elif Yalın has added another gem to her attractive cafŽs, this time in Tepebaşı’s NuPera. Known most popularly for Mangerie in Bebek, Yalın has gone on to establish a new location with Delicatessen Restaurant in Istinye Park and recently inside NuPera, where Lokanta used to be.
In the midst of an economic crisis, many in Istanbul have given up eating out, leaving some Istanbul restaurants half empty, but the new restaurant, Delicatessen NuPera, has been full despite the crunch. Â
Chef and restaurateur Elif Yalın's regular patrons enthusiastically try the innovative, yet consistently appetizing dishes she delivers. NuPera’s electric vibe combined with excellent meals make for a pleasant and exciting experience.
"İç Pilavlı" Salmon is a must!
A small platter of delicacies composed of cold-cut hams, caramelized onions, Delicatessen’s hearty bread and a dash of mustard is served immediately after sitting down. Needless to say, Delicatessen dishes up much more than typical a deli serving sandwiches and salads. Some of the best items to try are the blackboard specials. The "iç pilavlı" salmon is a magnificent dish with two layers of grilled salmon sandwiched between middle-eastern rice, "iç pilav," made with spices, pinnola nuts and cinnamon. The combination of this rice and salmon is skillfully balanced and this is one of the most popular dishes.
Impressive Turbot Stew with Fennels
Another seasonal special is the turbot stew with fennels, one of Elif’s personal recommendations and favorites. The turbot stew with fennels consists of two slices of fresh turbot fish cooked among juicy and aromatic fennels. Be sure to sample it before the turbot fish season ends soon. From the main menu, Octopus Yahni (stew) is a delicately striking combination of soft and chewy octopus legs watered down among olives and fine spices. It’s great to share as a starter or main course. All main courses are served with a bowl of fresh green salad.
Velvety celery puree and sweet pumpkin puree
For side dishes, the celery puree and the pumpkin puree are both excellent. The celery puree has the distinct taste and aroma of celeries with the creaminess and smoothness of puree. The pumpkin puree is so delicious and slightly sweet that another portion had to be ordered right away.
For dessert, fans of Mangerie Bebek will recognize the eye-catching array of sweets and desserts displayed by the bar. The apple tarte tatin and pumpkin tarte tatin are mouth-watering, yet the chocolaty and concentrated mosaic cake with vanilla ice cream wins the popularity contest. Water it all down with Delicatessen’s sharp and fragrant espresso!
Customers can also take home bread, cheese, jam and of course a wide range of local and international wine.
