ANKARA - Technical studies for the employment package formed against the increasing jobless rate in Turkey include a proposal to create temporary jobs in reforestation and the fight against erosion.
Initial studies for the employment package have been completed, and the prepared proposal package has been submitted to the economy’s top management and ministers. Now, the suggestions of ministers will be considered and the necessary resource package will be sought accordingly.
If the top bureaucrats of Turkish economy management approve the proposal, 50,000 people will be employed at minimum wage in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The arrangement to employ people temporarily in reforestation and the fight against erosion is expected to create some activity in employment, and also contribute to helping the environment.
Meanwhile, the option to employ 500,000 people in various jobs for the public interest via the Turkish Employment Organization, or İşkur, is still within the scope of the employment package. However, there are ongoing uncertainties regarding this option in terms of the possibility of a significant increase in budget costs.
There is limited area to employ 500,000 unqualified people, according to officials, and in the case of their entering the public sector temporarily, the situation may continue seasonally every year. This may create a burden of 2.5 to 3 billion Turkish Liras on the public budget, and result in the deterioration in public finance in the medium term, they said.
