ISTANBUL - Manchester United beat bitter rivals City convincingly to move back to the top of the premiership yesterday.
The game started in nervy fashion but United was in the ascendancy after another scorcher from Cristiano Ronaldo in the 16th minute. The in-form United player had a shot from 25 yards that swerved and dipped and beat City keeper Shay Given. From then on United dominated proceedings and capped off a commanding first half display with a second goal just before half time. Carlos Tevez’s strike in the 44th minute all but ended City’s hopes of a comeback.
Tevez, who has been in the spotlight over his future, was out to make a point and his sweet strike from outside the box certainly made it. The Old Trafford crowd repeated chanted for manager Sir Alex ferguson to sign Tevez on a permanent basis.
In the 57th minute Ferguson decided to rest Ronaldo and replaced him with Paul Scholes though Ronaldo didnt seem happy at being substituted. This crucial derby win takes champions United three points clear at the top of the table with an extra game in hand.
