ISTANBUL - One of Istanbul’s landmark building and a Koç Holding institution, the 53-year-old Divan Istanbul Hotel is to be rebuilt. The new hotel will combine Istanbul’s architectural and cultural heritage with Divan’s international service quality.
Divan Istanbul was inaugurated in 1956 by
Koç Holding’s founder, Vehbi Koç, in order to support Turkish tourism and raise new names in tourism. It has been the building block of the industry's leading brand. Divan Istanbul is located in Taksim, known as the city’s social, cultural and business center.
Designed by a Frenchman
The new hotel, renovated with a budget of approximately $50 million, has been designed by the famous French architect Thierry W. Despont, who lives in New York and has other luxury five-star hotels in Europe and the United States, such .S. as the Claridge’s, Carlyle and Dorchester Hotels among his design portfolio.
The hotel is being rebuilt in its original dimensions and feature old Istanbul’s archictecture and classic characteristics reinterpreted in a contemporary manner.
The hotel will house 228 rooms, two themed restaurants, the Divan pastisserie, carpark, fitness and SPA center, swimming pool and large, spacious meeting and conference rooms.
The demolition was completed in December 2008 and the rebuilt hotel is scheduled to reopen its doors in 2010, the year Istanbul becomes the European Capital of Culture.
The hotel will reflect a balanced combination of Turkish architecture and a contemporary approach to hotel construction.
