Problem of EU

UN Secretary General Annan clarified the role that EU would play in the process and attained a solution by reflecting this mentality on his letter. First of all, the two sides of Cyprus will come together to negotiate. If any problem appears, then Turkey and Greece will take action. If that proves to be insufficient, then Annan will also take action endowed with the authority to complete the gaps in the final agreement. EU will not take part in the discussion on political issues. However, in making the technical arrangements to guarantee that the newly established state will be able to live in EU, the Union will assist the parties.This mentality was included in the proposal of Annan in the following form: I appreciate the guarantees of EU to have itself harmonize with the solution and the offer of the EU Commission for technical assistance. I am hoping to benefit from these and other kinds of assistance in the course of negotiations. While the talks were under way in New York, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul was awaiting in Ankara for the whole night. Calling to us State Secretary Colin Powell towards morning, Gul said; Be careful. Greek Cypriots are diluting the issue. Powel replied; We are aware of that.Following the negotiations and the agreement between Greek and Turkish Cyprus, Gul said, “We all appreciate the efforts of Denktas, who is the leader of the negotiations.” Gul thanked to everyone and added, “However, do not think that everything ended. The real issue starts now.”�
