In a case which has occupied generous space in the Turkish media for the past few months, the family of Turkish military Private Ramazan Yuce claim that he has no connection with the terrorist group PKK, and that before he did his military service, he was in fact kidnapped by the PKK and brought to a mountain training camp, but returned home after rejecting the opportunity to join the PKK.
Yuce and 7 other military soldiers were captured and brought to northern Iraq by members of the terror group PKK towards the end of 2007. After his return to Turkish soil, Yuce went on trial, with prosecutors asking for a life sentence based on treason to the state.
Speaking from Mersin, where she lives, Private Yuce's mother, Fatma Yuce, said yesterday "My son did not betray his nation. I want to call out to all of Turkey. My son has no connection with terror."
