BERLIN - The Turkish tableware manufacturer Kütahya Porselen has made a new offer to buy the German porcelain maker Rosenthal, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year after its Irish owner, Waterford Wedgwood, called in receivers.

A spokesperson for Rosenthal said that the offer seemed very attractive, but declined to reveal the figure. Italy’s Sambonet Paderno has also reportedly made an offer of 19 million euros for the firm. Though the contracts are said to be ready, the company has been having some financing troubles and Kütahya Porselen’s offer is reportedly a better one.

Two other producers, which prefer to remain unidentified, are said to be interested in the German porcelain company, which has to be bought and paid for in July due to time restraints. If this does not happen, Bank of America, the main shareholder in Rosenthal, will take over and put it up for sale at an asking price of 36 million euros.

Kütahya Porselen, a globally known porcelain brand, was established in 1973 in Kütahya, Turkey, an important ceramics-production center. In addition to its local sales, Kütahya Porselen offers high-value products in more than 40 countries on seven continents.

With its huge capacity, strong financial structure and long-standing service, Kütahya Porselen has become the official supplier of top international chains like Carrefour, Ikea, Wal-Mart, El Corte Inglés, Hipercore, Metro, Ramstore and Auchan.
