Following a travel warning issued by Israel's Security council counter-terrorism, which strongly advised Israeli tourists to not travel to the south coast of Turkey, on Monday, Turkish police have detained at least 10 people with suspected links to Al-Qaeda. Security sources believe that the group was forming a plot to attack Israeli cruise ships in and around the southern Turkish coast, reported the NTV news channel. According to security sources, one of the suspects, a Syrian, was detained in the province of Antalya – Turkey's most popular resort destination with foreign tourists, millions of foreign tourists visit Antalya each year – was brought to Istanbul for questioning. Security forces believe the man may be connected to the November 2003 Istanbul bombings that killed 63 people and injured 100s. Other resorts named on the list by Israel's counter-terrorism unit were Alanya and Kemer, in Antalya province. All resorts are along the Mediterranean coast. NTV reported that the Syrain suspect had been collecting information on Israeli ships and synagogues in Turkey. The Syrian, who was carrying forged identity documents, was planning an attack on Israeli ships, the channel said. Only last Friday, Israeli authorities ordered four Israeli cruise ships scheduled to dock in Alanya to change course to Cyprus for fear of a possible attack. Â
