ISTANBUL - The selection committee has been chosen for the 13th year of the Golden Orange Poetry Award, which is given by the Foundation for Antalya Culture and Art, or AKSAV, and regarded as extremely significant in poetry and literature circles.
According to a written statement made by AKSAV, the winner of the last year’s award is an automatic member of the committee, which is made up of different names each year. This year’s jury includes Cevat Çapan, the winner of last year’s Golden Orange Poetry Award, Doğan Hızlan, Enver Ercan, Şeref Bilsel and Yücel Kayıran.
No applications
In order to win the award, an application is not required and last year’s poetry performances by Turkish poets are evaluated by jury members. The winner of the award will be announced Feb. 20. Unlike previous years, the award will not be presented on March 21, World Poetry Day, but on Feb. 21 during a poetry symposium.
"Nearly 150 poetry books were published last year in Turkey but only two-thirds of them received significant public attention. The global economic crisis has had a deep impact on the world of poetry. Publishing houses that aim to publish only poetry books, suspended this policy last year and moved toward other areas of literature. The 13th Golden Orange Poetry Award has an even more important mission in such an atmosphere," said AKSAV.
A significant literature award
The Golden Orange Poetry Award has been awarded since 1997 and is regarded as an important event by poets and literary circles in Turkey. Enis Batur, Haydar Ergülen, Gülten Akın, Mehmet Taner, Hüseyin Ferhad, Ahmet Oktay, Nemci Zeká, Güven Turan, Yücel Kayıran, Birhan Keskin, Lale Müldür and Cevat Çapan have each been recipients of the award and symposiums have been held on the poetry of these 12 winners. The views exchanged during these symposiums has been published and offered for sale as a book.
