Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on an official visit to Algeria, visited a cemetary for war veterans on his first day there, stopping to lay a wreath and pray. Later, at a military museum, PM Erdogan examined Ottoman era statues and pictures, as well as documents kept at the museum from Ottoman times.

Both PM Erdogan and his wife, Emine Erdogan, stopped to look for awhile at a guillotine, as a tour guide told them about the history of executions in Algeria. Signing a guest book at the museum, PM Erdogan wrote ".....The heroes of the struggle for independence in Algeria are the best examples for today's generations."
