The newspaper said the radio-detonated mines had been planted in the Haj Omran region close to the border with Iraq by the PEJAK, the PKK’s breakaway faction in Iran.

The mines were laid in response to the deaths of a number of separatists in clashes with the security forces, said the newspaper, which quoted the Tabnak news website which has close security contacts.

Turkey and Iran have been long fighting against the terrorist movements operated by both the outlawed PEJAK and PKK separatists which is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey and most of the international community, including the EU and the U.S..    Â
