PKK bomb explodes in truck, 2 terrorists captured

Two PKK terrorists who had reportedly left their training camp in Northern Iraq to come to Istanbul and carry out an attack were caught by police when a bomb they tried to throw at police instead exploded in their truck. Mehmet Zahit Sahin and Ramazan Ceber left the Istanbul neighborhood of Umraniye on September 6, followed by a team of Turkish intelligence agents.

When the two terrorists realized they were being followed in Esenyurt, they first fired on the security forces, and then tried to throw a bomb from their truck towards the police. The two men were captured shortly afterwards in an operation which also netted a variety of firearms. Both men also admitted during questioning that they had been involved in the August attacks in Istanbul against the Esenyurt AKP building and the Bagcilar municipality building.
