companied by eight teachers, a group of students consisting of 67 girls and 84 boys, traveled by coach to Istanbul in order to visit the Picasso Exhibition. Students from the Urfa Anatolian Fine Arts high school traveled in two coaches to Istanbul in order to visit the exhibition. The trip was funded in part by Besiktas Municipality, and the visiting students enjoyed a boat trip on the Bosphorus and stayed at a luxurious hotel.

Mayor of Besiktas, Ismail Unal, understood that the students from Sanliurfa wanted to visit the Picasso exhibition after reading Hurriyet Editor-in-Chief Ertugrul Ozkok’s column (November 30, 2005). Following this understanding Unal said, “As a public organization, I felt that we too had a responsibility towards them."

The students from Urfa Anatolian Fine Arts high school arrived in Istanbul on Thursday, December 15, in 2 coaches belonging to Ulusoy, a major coach company. The trip was paid for by the Municipality of Besiktas. The following day, the students and teachers, who stayed at the Dedeman Hotel, had a boat trip on the Bosphorus. This was followed by a visit to the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts and the Besiktas Contemporary Art and Culture Centre. The group later moved on to the Picasso exhibition being held at Sakip Sabanci Museum. The students took approximately 2 hours to visit the exhibition.

Student Kubra Akgunlu who stated they had told their teachers of their wish to visit the exhibition, added that she and her fellow students “decided to send a fax to the Sabanci Foundation because our budget was insufficient”. Kubra stated that the exhibition changed their views on art.
