ANKARA - State Minister Hayati Yazıcı and labor-union representatives came together yesterday to discuss the collective-bargaining agreement ahead of annual negotiations.
Collective-bargaining negotiations are carried out every year between Aug. 15 and 30. In this week’s preliminary talks both sides demonstrated their good will.
"We want to reach an agreement that will make employees happy by protecting their rights and taking into account the circumstances of the country," said Yazıcı, speaking after his meeting with Mustafa Kumlu, the chairman of the Turkish Workers’ Unions’ Confederation, or Türk İş, on Friday.
New ministers
Kumlu said the labor representatives met the new minister, who will coordinate the negotiations following the cabinet reshuffle, and presented their proposals to him.
"We hope the minister will soon get back to us with a promising answer so that we can finalize the agreement at the table," Kumlu said. This year’s negotiations will cover 241,000 employees working in the 200 state institutions; 219,300 of the workers are members of Türk-İş, 21,500 belong to the Labor Confederation, or Hak-İş, and 300 are members of the Confederation of Turkish Revolutionary Workers Union, or DİSK.
Türk-İş wants to see all monthly wages raised to a minimum of 1,230 Turkish Liras and wage disparities eliminated, along with the disparities between pay-raises for full-time and seasonal workers.
