DENİZLİ - The 2009 Paragliding World Cup is being held in Denizli between May 30 and June 6, Denizli Aeronautical Association, or DENHAVK, Chairman Ümit Ercan has announced.
Speaking at a pres conference, Ercan said the best paragliders in the world would be competing in the cup. The competition, to be attended by 120 competitors from 34 countries, would continue for eight days, depending on weather conditions. The competition will start on Çökelez Mountain, Pamukkale Dynamite Hill and Göveçlik Hill and then end at the official landing area.
"We have been having this very important event Denizli because of the geographic and meteorological advantages of the city. Pammukkale’s historical importance will also contribute to the promotion of the city. For that reason, this event is very important for us." Denizli is on the way to becoming an attraction for extreme sports, with 32 marked trails for trekking, rafting, canoeing, air sports, paragliding and jeep safaris. The courses for outdoor sports include mountaineering on the slopes of and by Buldan Kestane River-Buldan Süleymanlı, Denizli Cankurtaran Gençlik Spor Kampı and Topuklu and also at Beyağaç Esenler and Kartal lakes. There is paragliding at Çökelez Mountain, Kaklık Cave, Dodurgalar Keloğlan Cave and Göktepe Mountain. There is rafting, canoeing and water sports on the Acıpayam Gölcük-Dalaman River.
