Pakistan,Turkey vow to continue fighting terrorism

Pakistan and Turkey have vowed to continue extending cooperation to each other to fight the "global problem" of terrorism. Turkish and Pakistani foreign ministers reached a consensus to organize a second summit of Afghan and Pakistani leaders. (UPDATED)

Turkey would host a working group meeting in May in the level of undersecretaries aiming to improve relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said in a joint press conference with his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad on Saturday.

Babacan said a meeting of presidents of Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan was also planned to take place in June in Turkey. Turkish government established a platform for talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan and the leaders of the two countries met in Istanbul to start talks, Babacan reminded, adding "Both Afghanistan and Pakistan are pleased over this process."

Babacan also said Turkey was working in close solidarity with Pakistan over its fight against international terrorism.  "The goal of my visit is to tell Pakistan's people that we will be together with them in good and bad days and to reaffirm that we are ready to cooperate in every field," he added.

Babacan said he was the first Turkish high-level official visiting this country after the new government is formed in Pakistan.The two sides also discussed the issue of Afghanistan, where U.S.-led coalition forces have been fighting Taliban fighters since their government was ousted after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

Qureshi said there was consensus between Turkey and Pakistan over the international matters as well as the bilateral relations, adding boosting bilateral and strategic relations was discussed during his meeting with Babacan, and thanked to Turkey's support on Kashmir.
