OSCE does not approve Azeri elections

At a press conference held at 4 o'clock on Monday, following claims from the main opposition party in the Azerbaijan elections of mass falsification, the OSCE a body that was invited by the Azeri government to conduct observations of this years parliamentary elections, has said that the elections did not meet a number of OSCE standards.

What this means for Azerbaijan remains to be seen.

There were no recomendations by the OSCE for a relection, however, a spokesman from the body did say that the Azeri governemnt should take the neccessary steps in apprehending those who had carried out the fraud.

A number of frauds had been carried out with regards to vote counting and irregularities in the inking that used, which was brought in only two weeks ago, reported the OSCE. Many say that two weeks wasn't enough time to prepare for the implementation of such measures.

There was 660 observers brought into Azerbaijan for election day and the findings of the total observations was that there was a 43% error of meeting the standards neccessary for the elections to have been stamped with the European approval.

3,000 reports were evaluated on election night and the decision was given taht the OSCE standard had not been met.

Demonstrations are planned by the oppoistion parties on Tuesday, but many will wait to see what will happen next.

The observational body will evaluate for the next 6-7 weeks the outcome of the election and then issue a report.
