Opposition ANAVATAN (Motherland) Party leader Erkan Mumcu walked out of heated parliamentary discussions yesterday on the recent terror events in Turkey, in a show of protest against the foreshortening of his speech at the podium.

Saying that Mumcu's podium time had gone beyond the limitations, and noting the tension of the atmosphere, ruling Justice and Development (AKP) Party parliamentary head Nevzat Pakdil closed the microphone that Mumcu had been using. In response, Mumcu, stepping down from the podium, walked angrily out of the TBMM general assembly hall.

Prior to stepping down from the podium, part of what Mumcu said is as follows: "The goal of these terror events is the Balkanization of Turkey. Acquiescing with the desires of imperialist forces for the sake of short term benefits is nothing more than an empty dream. Getting into bed with the imperialists is like getting into bed with a snake....(Warning the AKP administration) You had better wise up quickly, because the people of this country are paying a heavy price for your blindness and ignorance. The solution to this problem is real integration."
