Olive stones belonging to Neolithik period discovered

An important discovery from the Neolithik period has been made by a team of archeologists while digging in the ancient town of Yumuktepe, Mersin. Olive pips that date back 5800 years were discovered as a Neolithink kitchen was found by using a new type of digging method, said Professor Isabel Caneva. "It is the first time anyone has ever used such a method to dig, " added Prof. Caneva.The English archeologist John Garstang began the slow process of discovering the ancient town of Yumuktepe back in 1930. "While digging, we are having samples of the soil analyzed, " said Caneva, "and we have discovered that the culture of Zeytin and Date production in the East Mediterranean dates back further than we had been lead to believe previously. Pips and seeds have been found that date back 5800 years."Â
