I am sure you will be touched when you read the statement by the "US authority" who was not brave enough to reveal his or her name.Because, as has been broadcast by the Anatolian News Agency, that authority admitted "The Turkish Armed Forces have the right to carry out operations against the terrorist PKK group within their own borders." Well, as you know, the US has shown itself to be very careful on the subject of human rights...Which is why the unnamed authority couldn't go on without adding: "This situation could change though if there are large scale infractions of human rights..." Clearly this US authority must think that torture centers like Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib are being run by the Turks. According to the Anatolian News Agency, "American sources, which underline they they see the PKK as a terrorist group, say that because American soldier force in Iraq is limited, full precautions against the PKK presence in Northern Iraq have not been taken, but the group will not be allowed to take shelter in this country." For God's sake, who is joking with whom here? Is it not the US who has called countless international summits at which the decision to fight terrorism and terrorists no matter where they are have been made? Did we not all hear President George W. Bush promise countless times that "we will struggle until we dry up the very roots of terrorism"? How many years has it been since the US government labeled the PKK as a "terrorist organization"?And there's more...Prior to the Iraq operation, and following the official "end" of the war, the promise was made to Turkey that "we will cooperate in the fight against the PKK." For example, when US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited Ankara in February 2005, she said "There are many methods we can use against the PKK which don't require soldiers" meaning we could cooperate with the US in drying up the financial sources for the PKK. Four months passed, and nothing was done about this promise. And what about the order to US forces in Iraq to capture the 150 PKK members on the list? When will we finally understand that our strategic partner, the US, has basically told us "We are not telling you "no". Go ahead and do what you need to do about this matter"? Â
