ANKARA - A candle and coin from Anatolia were seized in Austria when a Turkish citizenÊtried to sell the objects. While in a different occurrence, an Austrian citizen donated the pages of a handwritten Koran to Turkey.
Turkish Cultural Assets and Museums General Director Orhan Düzgün said the items had not been stolen from a museum but were taken from Turkey and he asked for their return.
According to information provided by Düzgün, a Turk took a candle and a coin to the Tyrol Museum Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum in the Austrian city of Innsbruck. When he said he had found them in İzmir and taken them to Austria through illegal ways, Austrian officials seized the objects. Düzgün also said an Austrian citizen named Nişan Bagos Aşçiyan donated to Turkey the pages of a handwritten Koran.
