Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler said that Turkey will place into operation nuclear power plants with a total installed capacity of 4 thousand 500 MW as from 2012.Speaking at the Plan and Budget Commission of Parliament, Guler said that energy demand in Turkey was rapidly increasing and therefore the government aimed to generate energy through new technologies and to utilize local resources more effectively.Guler went on to say that Turkish Petroleum company TPAO had big claims in exploring oil and natural gas and "TPAO is capable of searching oil and natural gas. It will begin exploration not only in Turkish waters but also in the world.”
